Intelligent transport systems and autonomous vehicles require vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication, for example to enable safer and faster travel. While existing communication schemes exist, they have difficulty preserving the privacy of the vehicles involved. Researchers at the University of Surrey have developed a new secure and privacy-preserving vehicular communication protocol using advanced cryptographic techniques. We are helping Surrey in an EPSRC funded project to build a network demonstrator of the protocol using in-vehicle computers and trusted hardware.
